Welcome to merry England! It is still the Renaissance years. Time has not passed. King Richard the Lion-Hearted has been captured or killed, nobody knows. His brother, Prince John, has now taken the throne. Some believe that his brothers disappearance was his plan so that he could rule, but that is only a suspicion.
Saxons everywhere mourn the loss of King Richard. Saxons are the Englishmen loyal to the good king. They fought with him by his side in the Crusades. Until their dying day, they will stay on their lost king's side. They will never really follow the corrupt King John. They are noble, caring, and want England to flourish and be righted. They consider all Englishmen equal/
Normans everywhere celebrate the crowing of Prince John. They only reluctantly followed King Richard to the crusades, and they fought without gusto. They probably helped with getting rid of King Richard. They are loyal only to Prince John. They are corrupt, condescending, and care only for themselves and their wealth. They consider themselves above the Saxons.
Both sides have some of the best knights England has ever seen. The Saxons and Normans may fight, but whoever wins really solves nothing. What really needs to be done is King Richard to be found and to drive his pig-headed brother out. Neither sides can achieve either it seems.
Besides this war, there is a smaller, though equally important war going on inside the heart of England. England is rotting from the inside out. Poverty haunts the people and nobles are only getting richer. Never fear though, Robin Hood has returned from the Crusades. He will strive to return peace and prosperity to England. Can he do it when King Richard is gone?
The Sheriff of Nottingham and Bishop of Hereford are both out to destroy Robin of Locksley. What he needs is to gather a group of bandits still loyal to King Richard the Lion-Hearted. They must band together to bring England back together and maybe even rescue the king.
This story is not just about the characters sung about it ballads, but the people whom nobody remembers who fought so that the scroll of history can be unrolled. Let us go back to that time, long ago. when the bandits swarmed the woods of Sherwood Forest.
